In what seems to be a never ending search for a new 49ers offensive play-caller, hold tight because will likely last a few more weeks. This week’s possible candidate: Hue Jackson…no not Wolverine, although, never mind…who is the current quarterbacks coach for the Ravens. No interview is schedule with Mike Singletary and GM Scot Millen McCloughan who are in Mobile, Alabama for the Senior Bowl but might conduct an interview while down south. Jackson has previously experience as an offensive coordinator but it was for only one year. And, it was in 2007 with the Falcons. Yes, the same year Mike Vick went to the slammer and Bobby Petrino bolted from town back to the college ranks. So not much to say about his experience. He did do a good job in developing rookie Joe Flacco this year after Kyle Boller and Troy Smith went down to injuries for the year. But as much as he helped Flacco developed it was the play-calling of Cam Cameron that gets more credit. (I called for Cameron to be hired last year, but I guess Mike Nolan and Millen McCloughan don’t read ninernoise.)
Since my last post Scott Linehan turned down the offer to become offensive coordinator after being interviewed for a second time. He turned it down to be closer to his family because his kids have been in too many schools the last couple of years. Understandable, but Linehan has seen a map before, right? One would think a former head coach would know how far apart St. Louis and San Francisco are? Especially since you traveled there each year to face the 49ers. What a joke. He comes in for the second interview I would think fully knowing that he would not take the job. Good, we didn’t want another Lams coach to be our play-caller anyways.
