Jimmy Raye II 49ers Offensive Coordinator

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

Several web sites (SI.com and NFL.com) are reporting Mike Singletary has finally decided on an offensive coordinator. His name: Jimmy Raye II. He interviewed on Wednesday and apparently convinced Singletary to hire him. Raye began his NFL coaching career as an assistant with the Red and Gold in 1977. He is known around the NFL as a coordinator runs a pro-style offense/West Coast offense the looks for a balance between the run and the pass. I had never heard of Raye before he was announced as a candidate for the position. He does however have 29 years of coaching experience [...]

49ers Coordinator Search Continues and Continues and…

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: 49ers | COMMENTS: None Yet

In what seems to be a never ending search for a new 49ers offensive play-caller, hold tight because will likely last a few more weeks. This week’s possible candidate: Hue Jackson…no not Wolverine, although, never mind…who is the current quarterbacks coach for the Ravens. No interview is schedule with Mike Singletary and GM Scot Millen McCloughan who are in Mobile, Alabama for the Senior Bowl but might conduct an interview while down south. Jackson has previously experience as an offensive coordinator but it was for only one year. And, it was in 2007 with the Falcons. Yes, the same year [...]

Scott Linehan Interviewed for Second Time

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Former Rams head coach Scott Linehan interviewed for the second time for offensive coordinator on Thursday. Linehan is rumored as the leading candidate but there seems to be some confusion here. Linehan runs the same style of “digit-based system” as Mike Martz did. I taught the point of firing Martz was to bring in a different style of offense and play-calling that was more in-line with Mike Singletary’s philosophy. Linehan did focus more on the run and protected his QB’s (unlike Martz) when he was an offensive coordinator with the Vikings and Dolphins and also ran that type of offense [...]

First Offensive Coordinator Candidate Interviewed; Rathman Rejoins 49ers

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: 49ers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Today marked the first time an offensive coordinator was interviewed by the red and gold. The potential call player is Clyde Christensen who has been the Colts wide receivers coach since 2002. I am sorry, Clyde who? He does have one year of play calling experience with the Buccaneers in 2001 and he has coached great wide receivers in Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez, but the 49ers have no one near the caliber of those receivers and they obviously don’t have a Peyton Manning throwing to them. Christensen was a QB in college at North Carolina and was [...]

49ers Offensive Coordinator Search Continues

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: Rumors | COMMENTS: None Yet

Mike Singletary was quoted recently as saying he would like to have a new offensive coordinator “as soon as possible”. Hiring a new offensive coordinator quickly is essential however Singletary should take his time searching for the 49ers next offensive play caller.  First, this is his first significant hire and he has said he wants someone with the same offensive philosophy which is run, run, run all over the opponent. Mike Martz clearly was not that type of coordinator which lead to his firing. Second, whomever is hired will be the 49ers seventh offensive coordinator in the last seven years. [...]
