The turnaround did start with Mariucci and T.O. being no longer welcomed. It also helped getting rid of former G.M. Terry Donahue and Dennis Erickson. But looking back now Jeff Garcia should have been kept as the 49ers have not had a successful QB since him. They need to bring in a G.M. who has a track record of bringing in players who will contribute to the team and knows what they are doing. Mike Nolan and current G.M. Scott McClellan have shown they are out of their league.

I believe the whole organization's turnaround came when we got rid of Mariucci, T.O., and Jeff Garcia. We went from believing the best defense is a GOOD OFFENSE to scheming around with the 3-4, and "tweener" linebackers like some lab rat experiment. All the 'tweeners in the world won't change the fact that, to win, you have to SCORE POINTS. And that begins and ends with the O-Line. We need to move Heitmann back to guard, let Wallace and Rachal start, draft a mean-mauling right tackle, and a smash-mouth, grind out the short yards, bulldozer Fullback. Jason Hill and Josh Morgan should be given the opportunity to start. And we should stop signing former standouts like Curtis Conway, Antonio Bryant, and Isaac Bruce, veterans on their way out. Invest in tall, strong, young wide receivers like we did in T.O. I believe Smith, O'Sullivan, and Hill are quarterbacks that belong in this league, most likely as back-ups. None has star quality. But no quarterback, under any scheme, including that of Martz, can compete when he's constantly running for his life after a 2-second drop. THAT, and 34 sacks, is the main reason for the turnovers. Get that down, and the rest will be uphill gravy.
