Have You Seen Enough?

There was one thing I thought definitely was going to happen during this past off-season…Mike Nolan was going to be fired. But I put my faith in the Joke (York) Family to actually make a good decision and well, shame on me. Instead he was told he was on the hot seat and the 49ers brought in Mike Martz to help Nolan save his job. Nolan has led the 49ers to a 2-4 record this season and he has career record of 18 wins and 36 losses. He has never finished at .500 in a season and the most wins he has achieved was in 2006 when the Niner’s won seven games. If the 49ers go into their bye week in week 9 with a 2-6 record (I don’t see the Niner’s beating the G-Men this weekend) or even a 3-5 record (a win over the Seasux is possible) Nolan needs to be let go. He has overstayed his welcome and he still looks like a freshman head coach in his fourth coaching season. The 49ers will never become a playoff caliber team with Nolan as head coach and the bye week presents a perfect opportunity for the 49ers to move forward. If Nolan is let go either Assistant Head Coach Mike Singletary or Offensive Coordinator Mike Martz should be named interim head coach. Singletary deserves it with the motivation he provides to all the players and the talent he has mentored and developed on defense, see Patrick Willis. However like Nolan before being hired, he has no head coaching experience. Martz of course has plenty of it and I believe is the best option on the coaching staff to take over but my only hesitation would be his reliance on the passing and his neglect to the running game that has been the catalyst of the team led by Frank Gore.

Should Nolan be fired?

If so when?

Who do you think should take over?
