Chargers VS 49ers

Chargers vs. 49ers

Walsh Field at Candlestick Park

7:00 PM (PST)

The San Francisco 49er face-off against the San Diego Chargers in tonight’s final preseason game for both squads as they get ready for the season opener. Like most NFL teams the 49ers and Chargers will most likely rest all of their starters or if they do play limit them to one or two series. Newly anointed starting QB J.T. O’ Sullivan will probably only play one series, but I think O’ Sullivan should at least play the first-half. This will be O’ Sullivan’s first game starting since he was told he would be under center for the regular season. He has improved with each start so let’s see what he can do with his increased confidence and see how much of the Mike Martz offense he knows. The reward and confidence of the 49er Faithful far outweighs the risk of injury. A QB’s confidence can be dwindled tremendously by boo’s from the home team’s fans. If they are not behind him, no one will be. QB Alex Smith should take advantage of the extra playing time by having a great game. It might be only a matters of weeks into the regular season before he is the starting QB if O’ Sullivan falters. His final time to make a case for to be a starter is now.

The 49ers do have questions as to who to place on the opening day roster and who to cut or place on the practice squad. Watch for a lot of playing time and maybe some big plays from FB Moran Norris, RB Thomas Clayton, WR Ashley Lelie, and WR Dominique Zeigler . Their performance in the final preseason game could determine their place with the team.

Prediction: 49ers 16 Chargers 13
