The 49ers get set for their second preseason game on Saturday as they square off against the cheese heads from Green Bay. The Packers recent QB controversy is well know and resolved. The 49ers however are still looking for their regular season starter at QB. Mike Nolan said this week J.T. O’Sullivan will start the game on Saturday, followed by Alex Smith and Shaun Hill. Nolan said the competition is still ongoing and he is not ready to name a starter. With O’Sullivan staring for the second week in a row the 49ers seem to be leaning toward him as the starter. I do not agree with O’Sullivan getting another start. If the competition is still ongoing as Nolan says, why not have Smith start this week and Hill the next week or vis-versa, with the chosen regular season starter getting the last nod under center in the final preseason game. Truly if this is a three way competition each should get their chance starting the game with the first unit to show off their progression into Mike Martz offense. It is hard to evaluate one’s readiness for the season by having them play with the second unit and against the opponents second unit. In last week’s game there were few shining lights with the only one on offense being O’Sullivan’s four passes to WR Josh Morgan. Please, please impress me this week O’Sullivan!
WR Arnaz Battle (hamstring), Bryant Johnson (hamstring), and Ashley Lelie (calf) will not play in the game, which will allow fellow WR Isaac Bruce to get a lot of playing time.
Prediction: 49ers 10 Packers 20
