The 49ers first pre-season game is tonight against cross Bay rival Oakland Raiders. J.T. O’Sullivan will start the game at quarterback, but that does not mean he is the front runner for the starting job. Mike Nolan and company want to see exactly what they have in O’Sullivan which is hard to do in training camp. He will most likely play until the middle of the second quarter. Alex Smith will take over and play into the third quarter. After that expect Shaun Hill to get some reps in the game. It wouldn’t surprise me if Smith and Hill start the next two games with the possible starter for the season starting in the final pre-season game. 49er fans should get a good look at what the Mike Martz offense will look like. Expect a lot of passing because you cannot gauge a QB’s progress by handing it off more than passing.
Prediction: 49ers 27 Oakland 17
