Chargers VS 49ers

Chargers vs. 49ers
Walsh Field at Candlestick Park
7:00 PM (PST)
The San Francisco 49er face-off against the San Diego Chargers in tonight’s final preseason game for both squads as they get ready for the season opener. Like most NFL teams the 49ers and Chargers will most likely rest all of their starters or if they do play limit them to one or two series. Newly anointed starting QB J.T. O’ Sullivan will probably only play one series, but I think O’ Sullivan should at least play the first-half. This will be O’ Sullivan’s first game starting since he was told [...]

Where is Bill Walsh Field?

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: 49ers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

“We’ve just tried to recognize and memorialize what Bill has done,” 49ers owner John York said of the club’s weeks of memorials to its former coach and general manager. “I think this is very appropriate for Bill, and I’m glad we were able to do it.” (www.sfgate.com)

It was been over one year since the legendary Head Coach/General Manger Bill Walsh died of leukemia. The 49ers organization rightfully honored Walsh in numerous ways last year. This included the renaming of the playing surface at Candlestick Park to Bill Walsh Field along with a plaque in the 49ers locker room that is [...]

J.T. O’Sullivan Named Starter

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: 49ers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

J.T. O’Sullivan will be the starting quarterback September 7 when the 49ers face-off against division rival Arizona Cardinals at Walsh Field. While it was not surprising given O’Sullivan’s play the last two preseason games, the real question is how long he will remain the starting quarterback. The 49ers first eight games of the season is an uphill battle that even a super bowl champion team would have a difficult task of coming out of with a wining record. If O’Sullivan can lead the 49ers to .500 after going through Arizona, Seattle, Detroit, New Orleans, New England, Philadelphia, NY Giants, and [...]

Ohh’Sullivan!

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: 49ers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Last night J.T. O’Sullivan made his most significant claim to the starting QB job in a win over the Bears 37-30. O’Sullivan passed for 7-of-8, 126 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions with a perfect quarterback rating. His one incomplete pass was a shovel pass to Frank Gore. Not to be forgotten, Alex Smith made a modest claim to the starting job going 6-of-17, 83 yards, one touchdown with no interceptions. Head Coach Mike Nolan would not commit O’Sullivan to the starting job, but after last night’s performance it would be hard to argue he should not be the starting man [...]

49ers vs Bears

Soldier Field (Chicago)

5:00 PM (PST)

The 49ers face-off against the boys from Midway for their third preseason game tonight. Again the 49ers find themselves playing against a team with a recent QB competition of their own. However like the Packers, the QB controversy has been resolved with Kyle Orton named the starting QB for the Bears. I think it is safe to say, minus a major meltdown tonight, J.T. O’Sullivan will be named the starting QB for the start of the season. When and if that happens I will not know whether to jump for joy or throw my [...]

Niner’s, O’Sullivan Impressive in Win

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: 49ers | COMMENTS: None Yet

QB J.T. O’Sullivan led the 49ers to a 34-6 victory over the Packers on Saturday going 8-17, 154 yards, one touchdown and one interception. O’Sullivan did what I wanted him to do which was impress me. More importantly Mike Nolan and company  were impressed as well. But not enough to officially him the starter as they said no decision has been made.

I attended the game at Candlestick and the 49er Faithfull let O’Sullivan hear every mistake as they showered him with boo’s before delighting the Faithfull in the second quarter with two scoring drives. Before that O’Sullivan was playing as he [...]

49ers v.s. Packers

Candlestick Park (Walsh Field)

6:00 PM

The 49ers get set for their second preseason game on Saturday as they square off against the cheese heads from Green Bay. The Packers recent QB controversy is well know and resolved. The 49ers however are still looking for their regular season starter at QB. Mike Nolan said this week J.T. O’Sullivan will start the game on Saturday, followed by Alex Smith and Shaun Hill. Nolan said the competition is still ongoing and he is not ready to name a starter. With O’Sullivan staring for the second week in a row the 49ers [...]

Takeo Spikes Signs with 49ers

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: 49ers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Eleven year veteran Takeo Spikes signed with the 49ers late Sunday night. He participated in his first workout with the team on Monday. Spikes visited with the 49ers in March but went unsigned and said he wanted to go to a team that gave him the best chance to win a Super Bowl. Let’s hope he found that team in the 49ers. As of now he will have to work to challenge LB Jeff Ulbrich at the TED position (inside linebacker).
Spikes was with the Eagles the last year before he was released. He should have no problem getting assimilated with [...]

49ers Disappointing in Loss

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: 49ers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The 49ers lost to the Raiders 18-6 Friday night amounting 269 total net yards while committing four turnovers. It was the first preseason game but the only shining light was rookie WR Josh Morgan making six catches for 68 yards. The Three QB Stooges, J.T. O’Sullivan, Alex Smith and Shaun Hill, were all ineffective in the game as they looked like they are still at the early learning stages in Mike Martz’s offense. O’Sullivan started the game and went 5 for 8 passing with 71 yards and an interception. He looked his best when he connected with Morgan three times for [...]

49ers vs Raiders

AUTHOR: Eric Melendez | IN: 49ers | COMMENTS: None Yet

McAfee Coliseum 7 p.m.
The 49ers first pre-season game is tonight against cross Bay rival Oakland Raiders. J.T. O’Sullivan will start the game at quarterback, but that does not mean he is the front runner for the starting job. Mike Nolan and company want to see exactly what they have in O’Sullivan which is hard to do in training camp. He will most likely play until the middle of the second quarter. Alex Smith will take over and play into the third quarter. After that expect Shaun Hill to get some reps in the game. It wouldn’t surprise me if Smith [...]
