Patrick Willis Talks Niners “D”
49ers Add Ex-Raider
Former Raiders tackle Barry Sims is expected to sign with the 49ers today. Sims deal is for two years and he is expected to compete at right tackle with injury-prone Jonas Jennings. Signing Sims is a great move even though he has been one of the leaders in false starts the last two years. With Sims on the roster rookie lineman Chilo Rachal can focus more on his natural position, guard, he played at USC. Rachal has been practicing at right tackle the last couple of weeks.
Swapping Lineman:
Back in March the Raiders signed former 49ers lineman Kwame Harris. With [...]
Undrafted rookie Cameron Colvin arrived to mini-camp this week. Colvin could not attend the 49ers workouts until he graduated. Apparently the NFL has a rule where fourth-year seniors cannot participate in any workouts until their school holds graduation. This was the case for Colvin who has been studying for finals. He was able to get some other study time as he was able to look over Mike Martz’ complex offense. After he received his degree he drove all night Saturday to arrive for Sunday morning’s workout.
The NFL rule is new to me and does not make much sense. I see their point [...]
Last week I posted who the identity and future leaders of the 49ers will and need to be in order for team to bring home ring number six. Here are my picks for defense:
D-Line:
Glory Years: Bryant Young
Future: Kentwan Balmer. The 29th overall pick in this year’s draft is fast off the line of scrimmage, athletic and very good at deflecting passes. Although he had an outstanding senior season as a Tar Heel, he had 59 tackles, this matched his production from his three previous years. It is doubtful he will be a starter this year but he will [...]
The Red and Gold claimed former Philadelphia Eagles LaJuan Ramsey off waivers today. Ramsey is a 6-3, 300 pound defensive tackle who played in nine games last season. Ramsey brings experience in winning championships having won two national championships with USC. Let’s see if he can win a spot on the team and make an impact.
The 49ers also added Tackle Ramiro Pruneda. Pruneda won four Mexican national championships while attending college at Monterrey Tech where he was named best offensive lineman in Mexico three times. He joins the team in training camp as part of the NFL International Practice Squad [...]
If you love the classiness of the lady’s on the TV show Flavor of Love than you will agree with Vernon Davis’ recent catch of “Black” from season three. While I have never watched the show nor heard of the lady named “Black” she apparently was the best looking contestant on the show.
Now if only Davis could make a catch that great in a game.
In the glory decades when the San Francisco 49ers won five Super Bowl rings there was always one thing consistent with the team, its identity. The teams of the 80’s led by Joe Montana and the great late Bill Walsh were defined as a West-Coast offense using short, horizontal passing attack to help stretch the defense out which opened up running lanes. The teams of the 90’s were more of the same however with Steve Young’s running ability the opposing defenses had to respect the run more as Jerry Rice and John Taylor separated the secondary. Any 49er Faithfull would [...]
As the San Francisco 49ers continue their off-season workouts, on Tuesday voters in San Francisco approved Proposition G which includes plans for a potential 49er stadium. The passage of measure G does not move the 49ers any closer to a new stadium nor does it make it more likely the 49ers are staying in The City. It just calls for room for the 49ers stadium…if they want to build a stadium there. This seems less-likely (see previous post) which means the 49ers stadium plans are as murky as Alex Smith’s chances of developing into a franchise quarterback. Even with the [...]
